Eighteen-year-old centre-back Madi Monamay has signed for PSV Eindhoven, the club announced today. The Belgian youth international joins from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen on a three-year contract.

Monamay played for the Bayer Leverkusen youth academy from 2022-2023. Before that, he played for KRC Genk and OH Leuven. Last season, the defender played 24 times in the U19 Bundesliga West. He also trained with the first team and played four times for Belgium U19. The young defender joins the reserve team, where he will be prepared for the new season after several weeks without group training.

Technical Manager Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink spoke of a long-awaited deal become reality, saying: “We followed Madi before he went to Bayer Leverkusen. We have watched him several times and are more than convinced of his ability. He is a modern, versatile footballer with a lot of potential. We are confident that he will seize the opportunities at PSV to take the next steps.”

On his move to the Eredivisie club, Monamay happily commented: “I am very happy that everything is settled and want to start as soon as possible. I had a good feeling about PSV from the start and I think it is an honour that I can wear the shirt. I want to show my qualities and connect with the first team as soon as possible.”
