According to Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV remain interested in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. The 21-year-old centre-back spent last season on loan in Eindhoven, where scored four goals in 36 appearances and lifted the KNVB Cup. After Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Rangers in the Champions League playoffs, PSV have decided that bringing in a new defender is a priority before the transfer window shuts. Branthwaite sits near the top of Peter Bosz’s shortlist and the club are expected to make a move shortly.
Everton sit rock bottom of the Premier League after Matchday two, and despite their defensive woes, Jarrad Branthwaite is yet to feature. The England U21 international is under contract until 2025 and a high price tag would be required if PSV want to sign him on a permanent deal.
PSV have already spent over €35m this summer, bringing in the likes of Noa Lang (24) from Club Brugge and Ricardo Pepi (20) from Augsburg. A big departure may be required to raise funds for Jarrad Branthwaite. Their star man, Ibrahim Sangaré has been heavily linked with a move away from the Philips Stadion this summer. With his departure, PSV could immediately make a move for Branthwaite. For now, they may have to identify other, more affordable defensive targets.
