Ajax and PSV Eindhoven went head-to-head for the 2021 Johan Cruyff Shield and the visitors earn the silverware after a 4-0 win on Saturday.
Scorers: Madueke 2â˛, 29â˛, Vertessen 76â˛, GĂśtze 89â˛
PSV caused problems for the hosts right from the start thanks to Noni Madueke. Using his pace, he ran into the box and flashed the ball past Remko Pasveer just two minutes in.
Ajax thought that they pulled a goal back through SĂŠbastien Haller, however, VAR ruled it out.
The momentum from PSVâs 19-year-old attacker continued to flow and by the half-hour mark, Madueke made it 2-0 with another thumping goal.
The match would then get even worse for Erik ten Hagâs side after NicolĂĄs Tagliafico was shown a straight red minutes before half-time.
Down to 10-men for the second half, Ajax struggled to try and find a way to turn things around while PSV continued to let the goals fly.
Yorbe Vertessen and Mario GĂśtze added the third and fourth goals for the visitors, securing PSV a major win at the beginning of the new season and devastation for Ajax.
