As much comes with the Spanish international, at just 16 years of age, in the midst of the most remarkable of breakout seasons with Barcelona.

Already widely considered to be one of world football’s finest up-and-coming prospects, Lamine has established himself as a near ever-present in the XI of Blaugrana head coach Xavi, on his way to a haul of six goals and seven assists thus far in 2023/24.

And yet, despite all outlined above, it nevertheless came as a surprise when word stemming from the media earlier this month pointed towards the winger as having been the subject of an eye-watering €200 million bid.

In news first reported by Marca, it was claimed that French giants Paris Saint-Germain, Barca’s upcoming opponents in the Champions League, had tabled the offer with a view to Lamine acting as the long-term replacement for the outbound Kylian Mbappé.

Speaking during an appearance on Barcelona’s new video podcast platform this afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when such rumours were put to the aforementioned Joan Laporta.

And, incredibly, the Spanish patron went on to confirm that a €200 million offer for Lamine did indeed land on his desk:

“We get offers for players like Lamine Yamal, for 200 million euros, and we have said no. Because we trust the boy, in his sporting projection, and we do not have the need, on the contrary. We are in a process of economic recovery and already seeing the end of the tunnel.”
