Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal (16) is nothing new. Marca first drew the link between the Spain international and PSG in early March. Le Parisien now report that Les Parisiens are looking to exploit their strong relationship with Jorge Mendes in order to convince the Barcelona forward of a move.
PSG will be afforded some financial flexibility this summer. Kylian Mbappé, comfortably the highest earner at the Ligue 1 champions, is set to leave upon the expiry of his current deal. His departure, likely to Real Madrid, will not allow PSG to spend the €1bn – the value of Lamal’s release clause – that Barcelona demand, however, PSG believe there is room for negation.
The word ‘untransferable’ doesn’t truly exist in football and behind the scenes at PSG, a fee of around €200m is being discussed for Lamal. If Lamal shows a desire to leave the Catalan club, a deal could be done, especially given that Jorge Mendes is the Spaniard’s agent.
Mendes manages the careers of many PSG stars, including Warren Zaïre-Emery, Vitinha and Bradley Barcola, all of whom have become key figures under Luis Enrique. The agent also has a strong professional relationship with sporting director Luis Campos and this relationship could be used to attempt to bring Lamal to the Parc des Princes this summer.
