The final day of Ligue 1 action went down on Sunday with plenty of results from around France.

Here is what went down.

PSG win; Brest capitalize on Lille heartbreak

Even without Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, champions Paris Saint-Germain managed to ease past Metz 2-0.

A stunning long-range effort from Carlos Soler caught goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja off guard before Lee Kang-in tapped home a second.

Meanwhile Monaco wrapped up their campaign with a thumping 4-0 showing against Nantes and finished second in the table for Champions League football next season.

Looking at the other automatic Champions League spot, the battle was between Brest and Lille.

Both teams were off to a sluggish start and it appeared Brest would pip their opponents to third with two second half goals.

Lille captain Benjamin Andre, however, put his side on the brink of automatic UCL qualification until they conceded an equaliser in the 93rd minute against Nice.

The late heartbreak at Stade Pierre-Mauroy meant Brest’s eventual 3-0 win was enough to finish third and Lille will need to reach the UCL via the qualifiers.

UEL and UECL spots

Nice (fifth) already booked their ticket to the Europa League group stages and other European spots were determined with the help of the upcoming Coupe de France.

Lyon finished sixth (a Conference League spot) after a stunning 96th minute penalty from hero Alexandre Lacazette.

But since they will also play the Coupe de France against PSG, win or lose they instead occupy a Europa League spot.

Meanwhile, Lens were forced to settle for seventh after Montpellier fought back for a 2-2 draw.

Yet regardless of the result thanks to Lyon’s win, they will play in the Europa Conference League.

Marseille, meanwhile, miss out altogether on Europe.

Relegation results

Clermont (18th) had their fate already confirmed ahead of kick off and despite Lorient beating them 5-0 on the final day, the 17th-place side also drops down.

Lorient fell just short of the relegation play-off spot which was occupied by Metz (16th).

Metz only lost by two against a Mbappé-less PSG side and Lorient needed goal differential to swing in their favour but it finished at -23 each and they subsequently fell short.
