Steve Mounié nearing Ligue 1 return

Steve Mounié (30) could be set for another spell in France. The Benin international, currently plying his trade at Augsburg, is the subject of talks between the Bundesliga side and SCO Angers, L’Équipe understands.

Angers are set for a significant blow. It was Esteban Lepaul’s goals that kept the club in Ligue 1 last season and his goal on the opening weekend of the season that gave the club their only win of the season so far. However, the Frenchman is now all set to join Stade Rennais.

Lepaul leaves a big hole to fill at Angers. It looks as though Mounié, whose most recent spell in France was with Stade Brestois, has been chosen as Lepaul’s successor. At Brest, he formed a formidable partnership with Martin Satriano, leading Brest to a historic third-place finish in Ligue 1 two seasons ago.

Angers are currently in talks with Augsburg regarding a loan move for the Benin international (59 caps, 20 goals).
