The Chelsea midfielder has been a revelation ever since he arrived in England and appears to be going from strength-to-strength in his new more advanced role under new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri.

But after what was a disappointing season for the Stamford Bridge outfit last term, Kanté was heavily linked with a move to PSG over the summer, and it appears some of his French international colleagues did their best to convince the midfielder to return to his homeland during the World Cup.

That’s according to L’Equipe, anyway, who claim Kylian Mbappé, Presnel Kimpembe and Alphonse Areola all begged Kanté to join them at the Parc des Princes as a replacement for the retiring Thiago Motta.

But the move never materialised and Les Parisiens’ inability to sign a top class midfielder might just be what prevents them from seriously competing for Europe’s biggest prize this season.

Whether Kanté will end up back in the French capital one day remains to be seen. The 27-year-old is actually from Paris but never played for PSG, instead turning out for Caen, from where he joined Leicester City for just €8m back in 2015.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
