RMC Sport have revealed that the owners of Paris Saint-Germain, Qatari Sports Investments (QSI) are exploring the possibility of buying Spanish second-division side Málaga.
QSI purchased 22% of Portuguese side Braga last October, and on top of diversifying their assets by moving into Padel, the consortium could now be set to make a new venture, this time into Spanish football.
Cope have reported that QSI, who have owned PSG since 2011, are looking to buy a majority share in Málaga, who are currently 20th in La Liga 2. According to the Spanish media, Tamim ben Hamad Al Thani was looking to spend €9m to acquire 51% of the club.
Whilst RMC Sport denies that talks over a buyout are advanced, the French media does confirm that QSI are at least exploring the option of buying Málaga. The Spanish club is one of many clubs currently being explored by the PSG owners.
Parallel to QSI’s attempts to diversify, there is a Qatari bid being led by Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the chairman of the Qatar Islamic Bank to purchase Premier League side Manchester United. That bid will go through his own private Nine Two Foundation.
