PSG ordered to pay Kylian Mbappé’s unpaid wages

Kylian Mbappé (25) looks to have won his long-running dispute with former club Paris Saint-Germain concerning unpaid wages, as reported by Le Parisien and L’Équipe.

Mbappé went unpaid for the final three months of his PSG contract, from April to June, prior to his move to Real Madrid. The refusal to pay the wages came amid a dispute and a messy divorce between the two parties. Les Parisiens believed that they had an oral, gentleman’s agreement with the France captain that they wouldn’t lose out financially, in the event that he left on a free transfer, which of course he did.

That agreement, the club has argued, was stated publically in January, when Mbappé said the following: “With the agreement that I made with the president this summer, regardless of my decision, (at the end of the 2023/24 campaign) we have managed to protect all parties, maintain serenity at the club for the future challenges – that’s the most important thing.”

PSG forced to pay within 8 days

However, Mbappé contacted the LFP’s legal committee on 8th August in order to bring an end to the dispute and to earn the unpaid wages for the aforementioned three-month period. PSG thought that had struck a minor victory on Wednesday when the LFP recommended that PSG and Mbappé set up a legal mediation.

Whilst that verdict was welcomed – publically – by PSG, it was not welcomed by Mbappé, who refused the mediation, forcing a ruling from the LFP. As per Le Parisien and L’Équipe, that verdict is now in, and PSG have been ordered to pay €55m to their former winger. That payment, comprised of the unpaid wages and bonuses, must be made within the next eight days.
