Désiré Doué (18) has long been considered one of France’s most promising talents. Last season at seventeen he broke into Bruno Génésio’s Stade Rennais side, and while the midseason departure of Génésio for Julien Stéphan brought a momentary stall, the young Doué has once again become indispensable.
Ahead of last summer it appeared likely that the midfielder was to leave Rennes, his agent Mikaël Silvestre, was keen for Doué to find pastures new. To the club’s frustration, he even took Doué to watch Barcelona while his client was provided time off to recover from a thigh injury – a particularly annoying moment for the club as Rennes lost a bruising battle away at Montpellier HSC.
However, there was no movement despite interest from clubs like Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund. Doué remained in Rennes to continue his development, a pleasant surprise for the club that will likely not be repeated this summer. According to Sports Zone, it appears that Doué will soon have new representation, as he looks to change agents and become part of Moussa Sissoko’s roster.
The French agent who also represents Ousmane Dembélé (26) is keen for his future client to join the winger in moving to Paris Saint-Germain. However, no discussion between the club and the player has yet begun. Elsewhere those previous links that have defined the past windows have not dissipated and Doué remains a highly sought-after prospect.
