Prospective Derby County owner Chris Kirchner has aimed a dig at Nottingham Forest after it was confirmed yesterday that he’d submitted a bid to buy the Pride Park club.

Reports emerged on Monday night that he had made a £50 million takeover bid, with the American businessman himself and the club’s administrators since confirming his action.

Having come from the relative unknown to attempt to pull the club out of administration and take them forward, Kirchner has been the subject of significant speculation over the past few days with many supporters taking to Twitter to pose him questions.

When a fan of the Rams’ East Midlands rivals Forest requested he expand on how he was going to fund the purchase, the prospective new Derby owner used it as an opportunity to aim a dig at the Reds instead.

The 34-year-old is the co-founder, chief executive, and chairman of logistics software company Slync.io.

Quantuma, Derby’s administrators, have claimed (via Derby Telegraph) that his bid is “fully funded” and he is a “credible” buyer while it is understood he is expected to pass the EFL’s fit and proper owners test.

The Verdict

Derby fans will absolutely love this from Kirchner, who has only been in the picture a few days but has already aimed a dig at their rivals Forest.

He is saying all the right things at the moment but after seeing two takeover bids fail last season, they will, of course, be cautious.

Big talk is not always a bad thing from a prospective owner but it needs to be backed up properly and it seems the administrators feel that Kirchner can do that, which is certainly good news – something there hasn’t been a huge amount of at Pride Park over the last 18 months or so.

Hopefully, this takeover can be completed sooner rather than later to allow the American businessman to press forward and take the Rams into a new era.

Reinforcing Wayne Rooney’s squad in the January transfer window could be vital if they are to overcome a 12-point penalty and remain in the Championship.
