Eintracht face Hoffenheim at Deutsche Bank Park in their first home game of the season. With plenty that can be read into recent results, it is little wonder that Arthur Theate says he “can hardly wait!”

The curtain was raised on the 2024/25 Bundesliga season last weekend, with 30 goals across nine games. Eintracht Frankfurt had the marquee televised match on Saturday evening away to Dortmund, going down 2-0 in the end. “Over the 90 minutes, it was a fairly balanced match,” said sporting director Timmo Hardung to EintrachtTV. “Playing in Dortmund is never easy – they’re a very good team and it’s a tough stadium to play in. Not being able to control the entire match and having to do some desperate defending is par for the course.”

“We need to draw the right conclusions from the game, take some belief and self-confidence out of it into the next week of training and work on being more clinical in front of goal so that the result ends up in our favour at home to Hoffenheim,” he continued, looking ahead to the match on Saturday 31 August (15:30 CEST).

TSG kicked off their campaign at home to newly promoted Holstein Kiel and picked up a 3-2 win. This was Hoffenheim’s first victory in a season-opener in three years, with striker Andrej Kramaric grabbing a hat-trick.

Looking back

The last three times that these clubs have met, the result has been 3-1. Both matches went the way of the Eagles in 2023/24, with the latter at Deutsche Bank Park marking the 125th anniversary of the club and seeing Eintracht play in special black-and-gold jerseys to mark the occasion. Since the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Eintracht have won nine of the 12 league meetings between the teams.

First home game of the season

This will be the first match at Deutsche Bank Park this season, with the Eagles unbeaten at home in eight in the Bundesliga against TSG, having picked up five wins and three draws across that span. “We need to take a strong mindset into the home game and get our first three points of the season,” said Arthur Theate after the Dortmund match. “Our fans gave us plenty of love and encouragement today and that’s exactly what we need as a youthful squad. I can hardly wait to get back to playing at Deutsche Bank Park in front of them all again.”
