With four matchdays to go in the Bundesliga, a tough task awaits Eintracht on Saturday with the away game at FC Bayern Munich.

The backdrop

Frankfurt consolidated sixth place in the table with the 3-1 win over FC Augsburg last Friday and took another step towards their main aim this season: European football. “The team is alive and we want to earn this sixth place,” said goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. “I’m sure we’ll do it and will see lots of happy faces, because we know what it means for the Frankfurt region to play in Europe.”

On Matchday 31, the top six in the Bundesliga – Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Frankfurt – play among themselves in three direct clashes, with Eintracht travelling to the Allianz Arena. Kick-off against Bayern is at 15:30 CEST on Saturday 27 April.

Facing the top two “We now have two big games, first in Munich and then at home to the new German champions Leverkusen,” added captain Trapp, highlighting: “Not many people will believe we can get anything there, but we’ve already shown once that we can hold our own in Munich – and we beat them 5-1 earlier in the season. Everything needs to go perfectly for us to be able to get a result there, but we believe we can do it.”

“We’ll try everything”

Philipp Max also spoke ahead of the trip to Munich: “We know you need a very, very good day to get anything against Bayern – particularly in Munich. Everything’s reset to zero on Saturday, it’s a new match. We’ll go there and try everything. We want to turn in a good performance and carry the energy from the second half against Augsburg. We want to be tight, compact and work together well, and then we’ll see what’s possible.”
