Monday night’s Premier League action sees Tottenham Hotspur begin their post-Antonio Conte era with a trip to face Everton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees ground out a 2-2 draw against Chelsea in their last outing thanks to second-half goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ellis Simms.

Having climbed out of the relegation zone and up to 15th place, Sean Dyche will be hoping for a positive result to bolster his side’s chances of a top-flight stay.

However, Tottenham will be equally keen to return to winning ways after a thrilling yet disappointing 3-3 draw against relegation-battling Southampton heading into the international break.

Dyche would have been proud of the resilience and never-say-die attitude his side displayed at Stamford Bridge nearly two weeks ago.

Having gone behind twice in the second half, the dogged Toffees scraped to a draw that extended their unbeaten run to three games (W1, D2).

Dyche has spearheaded a significant turnaround since arriving at Goodison Park, transforming Everton into a side that looks increasingly likely to avoid the drop with every passing matchday.

Everton sit two points above 18-placed West Ham United, although they have played two games more than David Moyes’ struggling Hammers.

However, they cannot afford to get complacent heading into the crucial part of the campaign, and another positive result against a London side will do wonders for their chances.

Winning just one of their last 20 league games against the North Londoners since September 2020 (D9, L10) is not a statistic that bodes well for their chances on Monday night.

But their form at Goodison Park since Dyche’s arrival offers a glimmer of hope as the Toffees have won three of their four league games on home turf under the Englishman’s tutelage (L1) – more than they managed in the previous ten under former boss Frank Lampard (W2, D2, L6).

Dyche’s arrival at Merseyside has also brought mixed fortunes as the Toffees have managed three clean sheets under the former Burnley gaffer but have also conceded at least two goals in a game on five occasions.

Since the 51-year-old’s first game in charge, only Liverpool (5) have kept more league clean sheets than the Toffees (3), but at the same time, only Nottingham Forest (14) have conceded more goals than Dyche’s side (12).

Following a thrilling six-goal stalemate at St Mary’s, Conte sealed his fate at Tottenham with an uncouth post-match rant where he dragged the club and players through the mud.

The Italian had been at odds with the Spurs hierarchy for much of the season regarding his contract situation and the club’s ambitions or lack thereof.

Some might say the former Chelsea manager was asking to be sacked, and while it took seven days for an official confirmation to arrive, the long-awaited axe finally fell four days ago.

Assistant manager Cristian Stellini has been appointed interim head coach until the end of the season, and he will collaborate with former midfielder Ryan Mason.

With the club barely hanging on to fourth place, the onus is on the duo to ensure they kick off their interim reign with maximum points.

Stellini stood in for Conte when the 53-year-old was hospitalised after undergoing gall-bladder surgery, so the Spurs players are familiar with his methods.

Everton will prove a difficult task, but the importance of collecting maximum points in Merseyside is not lost on Stellini and Mason, as anything but could see them drop out of the top four if other results do not go their way.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last nine visits to Goodison Park (W3, D6), although each of the previous three have ended level.

They have also kept more league clean sheets against Everton than against any other opponent (24), shutting them out in their last three meetings.

Team News

Everton have no fresh injury concerns heading into Monday night’s showdown against Tottenham, with several players returning to the fold.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back on the training ground as he continues his recovery from injury, but is yet to join his teammates in full sessions.

Several players from the squad returned from their international duties unscathed, including Nathan Patterson, who had been sidelined since suffering a knee injury against Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the year.

Stellini’s injury-ridden Spurs side will travel to Merseyside without Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies, Richarlison, Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon.

Ivan Perisic also gave an injury scare while on international duty as he appeared to be in some discomfort before being replaced late in stoppage time during Croatia’s 2-0 win over Turkey.

However, Stellini is confident the 34-year-old will be fit enough to face the Toffees in Monday night’s crunch meeting.

Everton potential starting line-up:

(4-5-1): Jordan Pickford; Ben Godfrey, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Seamus Coleman; Dwight McNeil, Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Alex Iwobi; Demarai Gray.

Tottenham Hotspur potential starting line-up:

(3-4-3): Fraser Forster; Clement Lenglet, Eric Dier, Cristian Romero; Ivan Perisic, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Pedro Porro; Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski.

How to Watch?

We Say: Everton 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Defensive solidity has been the hallmark of Dyche’s reign, yet the Toffees have been guilty of some horrible defending, evidenced by the enormous amount of goals shipped under the Englishman.

However, Spurs have not exactly been rock solid either, having conceded as many league goals this season as they did in the whole of last term (40).

Tottenham are favourites on paper for this one, but the Lilywhites are shaky at the moment, especially after the Conte fiasco.

While Everton will be hoping to make the most of Spurs’ situation, Stellini’s side should have enough to see off the Toffees and return to winning ways.
