Whites face huge FA Cup clash.

Leeds United Women face WSL giants Arsenal in an eagerly anticipated FA Cup Fourth Round clash this weekend.

The Whites booked their place in the Fourth Round after beating Stoke City earlier this month, their only game of the year so far as their schedule has been heavily disrupted by the weather.

A Danielle Whitham double and Amy Woodruff were the scorers as Rick Passmoor’s side produced their performance of the season so far to set up Sunday's meeting with Arsenal.

The Gunners have played twice since the turn of the year. They kicked-off 2023 with a 1-1 draw in a WSL heavyweight clash against Chelsea, to remain three points off top spot with a game in hand.

Jonas Eidevall's side were then in action on Thursday night, defeating Aston Villa 3-0 in the Conti Cup thanks to a brace from Frida Maanum and a goal from Caitlin Foord.

The game kicks off at 2pm at Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park (Broughinge Road, Borehamwood, WD6 5AL).

Team news:

Leeds will unfortunately be without their captain and influential defender Rebekah Bass, who sustained a serious knee injury in the Third Round victory over Stoke, she will be out of action for a number of months.

New signing Jess Rousseau is cup tied after participating in the FA Cup earlier this season for former club Lincoln City.

Sunday’s hosts are without two of their biggest stars; all-time WSL top scorer Vivianne Miedema and Lionesses hero Beth Mead are both out with ACL injuries.

Even with those two out, Eidevall still has a plethora of talent to call upon, including UEFA EURO 2022 Lionesses winning captain Leah Williamson.

What has been said ahead of the game?

Leeds United Women’s midfielder Sarah Danby had this to say ahead of the game:

“I think people may look at us and feel we have overachieved, with how well we have done in the competition so far," she told LUTV.

“I disagree with that, though. I think we have gone out in our previous games and performed, so we deserve to be where we are.

“We’ll be going there to enjoy it, but we know it will be tough. They are training every single day so we know how fit, strong and fast they will be.

“But, we’re here, we know we’re a team that’s together and we’ll give it our best shot. We’ll enjoy everything about the occasion for sure.”
