Jude Bellingham says Real Madrid were written off by “pretty much everyone” ahead of their game against Manchester City, as the Spanish side progressed through to the Champions League semi-finals with a penalty shoot-out victory over the current holders.

Kevin De Bruyne’s second-half equaliser following Rodrygo’s opener ensured the quarter-final second leg finished 4-4 on aggregate, before Carlo Ancelotti’s side progressed through with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win following misses from Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic.

Madrid will now face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, who knocked out Arsenal thanks to Joshua Kimmich’s second-half winner, but Bellingham insists his side have nothing to fear against them.

“I wouldn’t say I’m worried, we’re always confident in our own ability,” Bellingham told TNT Sports.

“Everyone wrote us off before this game anyway, saying City were favourites. Pretty much everyone put them in the final.

“We’ve got nothing to be worried about but we respect their talent and their quality, we’ll have to approach it with the same focus.”

Bellingham was one of the Madrid players to convert his penalty after Luka Modric had missed his side’s first from the spot and says his move to the club in the summer from Borussia Dortmund has been a “dream” so far.

“You have to work really hard to beat them (City) and I was pretty much dead on my feet at the end so to win the game is a massive reward,” he added.

“I could never have dreamed of how it has started.

“Not just because of the goals and the performances and that kind of thing, just the feeling you get playing for the club.

“Every day when you get to put that badge on your chest, you feel so grateful.”
