The 2025/26 Premier League season is almost upon us and there’s plenty of excitement ahead of the opening fixtures. Each campaign sees milestones passed and we’ve picked out six records that could reasonably be broken this season.
Premier League records that could be broken in 2025/26
James Milner is gearing up for a record-extending 24th campaign in the Premier League and the midfielder’s longevity has already seen him claim several landmarks.
Milner has been substituted on (205) more times than any other player and could eclipse Gareth Barry’s record for the most Premier League appearances this season.
The 39-year-old is 15 appearances behind Barry’s 653-game record and will hope for improved fortunes this season. Milner made played just four times during an injury-hit 2024/25 season.
David Beckham has held the Premier League’s free-kick record for more than two decades. His 18 free-kicks has been unmatched ever since the former Manchester United midfielder departed the division for Real Madrid in 2003.
James Ward-Prowse ranks right behind Beckham (17) but has suffered a drought when it comes to set-piece specials.
The 30-year-old has not scored a free-kick since a 1-0 win for former club Southampton at Chelsea in February 2023. Back in favour at West Ham and recently appointed vice-captain, he’ll hope to beat the record this season.
Max Dowman has made plenty of headlines in pre-season with the 15-year-old’s star firmly on the rise. The Arsenal teenager won’t quite be able to break teammate Ethan Nwaneri’s record as the Premier League’s youngest debutant, but he’s a chance to become the league’s youngest scorer.
If Dowman, who doesn’t turn 16 until New Year’s Eve, scores a league goal in the 2025/26 campaign he’s eclipse the record of James Vaughan (Everton v Crystal Palace; 10 April 2005), who was 16 years, 270 days.
A difficult record to beat but Manchester City’s robotic goal machine can not be ruled out.
Haaland has hit eight hat-tricks in just three Premier League seasons, with only three players having ever managed more. He’s just four match balls from equalling Sergio Aguero’s record.
Mohamed Salah equalled the record for Premier League Golden Boot wins last season, after claiming his fourth award. Salah drew level with Thierry Henry for the most times as the league’s leading scorer and will be aiming to take the record outright this season.
Salah has now scored 184 league goals for Liverpool and will be confident of becoming just the fourth player to reach 200 goals in the Premier League this season. Should he find the net 30 times, he’s surpass Harry Kane for the most goals scored for a single club.
