Earlier in the summer, Barcelona were linked with a move for Denzel Dumfries as part of the club’s plans to shore up the right-back unit.

However, it was soon revealed that Dumfries might be out of Barcelona’s budget range, with the Dutchman likely to cost somewhere in the range of €25 million.

That is not something Barcelona can afford right now, given the club’s economic woes. However, that hasn’t stopped Dumfries’ agent, Jorge Mendes, from trying.

Mendes pushing for Dumfries move

According to Gianluigi Longari, Mendes is continuing to push Barcelona to sign Dumfries this summer and strengthen their ranks at right-back.

It must be noted that Mendes shares an excellent relationship with Barcelona and its president, Joan Laporta.

The two parties have been involved in key deals in the past, with Mendes now hoping to facilitate Dumfries’ transfer to Barcelona.

However, Longari adds that Barcelona have not shown too much interest in Mendes’ proposal.

That is largely because the club have full faith in Jules Kounde, the club’s current first-choice right-back for next season.

Kounde has been an excellent servant for the club in the recent past and enjoys the respect and trust of Hansi Flick and his coaching staff.

Although Manchester City and other clubs have recently enquired about the French international, Barcelona are confident of not only keeping hold of the player but also tying him down to a long-term contract.

As for Dumfries, Barcelona would have ideally liked to sign the Dutchman as an alternative to Kounde. But the club, as mentioned earlier, are simply not in a position to spend €25 million on a back-up right now.
