With the rumours beginning to circulate that Norwich City are interested in bringing Queens Park Ranger’s Chris Willock to the club, Portsmouth fans will be willing the deal to be completed more than most.

The 26-year-old is said to be out of contract at Loftus Road this summer, having played over 100 times for the R’s since joining from Benfica in the summer of 2020.

With bagfuls of trickery and flair in the attacking third, the former Arsenal man will be a great addition to many Championship sides if he does move on this summer, and the Canaries are reportedly one of a number of interested parties, as well as fellow second tier side Sunderland.

If the Canaries do move for the winger to add to their plethora of attacking talents, it could pave the way for departures from Carrow Road during the off-season, with Abu Kamara likely to attract interest if that is the case.

Abu Kamara’s Portsmouth heroics spark hope of summer reunion after Norwich City transfer update

Kamara was a key part of the Portsmouth side that cantered to the League One title during the 23/24 campaign, with John Mousinho’s side tasting defeat just five times across the entirety of the season.

Having featured in every league game for his loan side, the 20-year-old proved indispensable to a side who were regularly picking up victories in the division, with his 18 goal contributions a vital part in their dominance.

With the ability to carve open defences - either through his buccaneering runs with the ball or his piercing passing ability - the attacking star proved pivotal to the Fratton Park side’s promotion push and has the quality needed to perform at Championship level.

It would be no surprise to see Pompey try to agree a deal to get the playmaker back to the south coast for another season, and if Willock is to be added to the Canaries’ ranks that could add further reason for the young talent to have another year away from Carrow Road.

Having left Fratton Park to return to his parent club when the League One season came to an end in April, Kamara hasn’t shut the door on a return to the club that helped him highlight his talents in the professional game.

He said: “It’s my first loan, a very productive loan, and champions. You can’t ask for more.

“I’m not someone who likes to look into the future, I prefer to take it as it comes, and I’ll just see what goes on.

“My aim is to try to get into the first-team at Norwich, although I would definitely like to come back, I love it at Pompey.”

With the likes of Josh Sargent, Gabriel Sara and Jon Rowe all vying for spots in the attacking line for Norwich, current boss David Wagner has plenty of options at his disposal as it stands, not to mention Ashley Barnes and Borja Sainz.

That must leave Kamara on the fringes of the first-team at Carrow Road even before the Willock revelation, and a move away from the club for a second successive season would surely help all involved in polishing another gem to come out of the City academy.

Norwich City Premier League ambitions could help Abu Kamara, Portsmouth deal

Wagner [pictured below] has led his side into the Championship play-offs following a sensation second-half of the season, with local rivals Ipswich Town and Leeds United the only teams to pick up more points since the turn of the calendar year.

It is indeed United who the Canaries will face in the end-of-season lottery over two legs in the coming weeks for a place in the Wembley final, with a spot in the Premier League the ultimate prize.

If the Norfolk side were to achieve their ambition of becoming a top flight club once again, that would be another shot in the arm for Pompey’s hopes of resigning their fan favourite from this season.

With game time likely to be limited in the EFL, a sensational return to the top table would all but end Kamara’s dreams of becoming a regular feature in East Anglia next season, with a Championship loan the likely outcome for the following campaign.

It remains to be seen if City hand a new contract to their young talent, with the current deal for the 20-year-old set to run out next summer.

Having shown his talents in the EFL already, it would be no surprise to see that deal extended in the coming weeks before another loan move is secured to further help his progression.

City’s insistence on bringing players into the club rather than playing a star that is right under their noses could play into Pompey’s hands though, and they would drive Willock to Norfolk themselves if it meant helping their own cause for the next campaign.
