The Danish market is being scouted by Pompey for the second summer running.
Portsmouth are one of a number of Championship clubs reported to be keen on signing Danish midfielder Pelle Mattsson this summer.
Of all the clubs in the second tier, Pompey are arguably the most adventurous when it comes to their recruitment. They look at players from all four corners of the world - very literally in the case of Australia - to varying degrees of success.
Their first signing of the summer, Adrian Segecic, came from down under, re-completing a quartet of Aussies in John Mousinho's squad, following the release of Kusini Yengi.
Portsmouth are now looking at the complete other side of the world for potentially their second arrival of the transfer window. A report from Danish outlet Bold has claimed that 23-year-old Mattsson is on their radar.
A number of Championship clubs have been linked with the midfielder by the Scandinavian outlet, though Pompey's name was the only one that was singled out as having interest in him.
Mattsson plays for Silkeborg IF in the Danish Superliga. He emerged as a standout player in the centre of the park for them last season, which has led to the English interest in him.
According to Bold, Mattsson is keen to make a move away from his current club, whose academy he came through, amid all the interest from English teams.
Silkeborg could be in the Europa Conference League next season, should they get through the qualifying rounds. Because of this, the club's sporting director, Jesper Stuker, has said that "something special" will have to happen in order for them to consider selling the star midfielder, as per Bold.
Any deal for Mattsson is not said to be anywhere near completion. The 23-year-old still has a year-and-a-half left on his current deal, so Pompey will need to fork out some cash for him in order to win the race.
This avenue of Scandinavian recruiting, specifically in Denmark, is certainly not an unfamiliar one for Mousinho and his team. Last summer saw the arrival of number nine, Elias Sorensen.
Off the back of a standout season in the Danish second division where he scored 23 times in 30 appearances, Pompey paid between €300,000 and €400,000 (~ £250,000 - £330,000) for the former Newcastle United youth team player, as per Tipsbladet.
He scored on his debut in a brilliant 3-3 draw away at eventual champions Leeds United on the opening day, but Sorensen struggled after that to live with the requisite level of the Championship.
Sorensen made a further 11 second-tier appearances before being sold to Norwegian side Valerenga IF for around £250,000. Pompey will hope that Mattsson will be more productive should he follow in the footsteps of his compatriot and complete a move to Fratton Park.
