Pompey have added John Swift and Adrian Segecic to their ranks so far this summer, as they look to build on their 16th place Championship finish last term.

Now, John Mousinho and Co. are aiming to bolster their midfield ranks with a move for the Hungarian.

Pompey have been reported to hold a keen interest in Kosznovszky all summer and now a deal has progressed accordingly.

As per the Football Insider, Portsmouth have agreed a £1.2 million fee for the 23-year-old.

They had previously made a bid of £517,860 for Kosznovszky but have now significantly increased that to secure his services.

The young midfielder is highly rated by a number of clubs across Europe, after making 28 appearances for MTK Budapest last term.

Portsmouth will now hold discussions over personal terms for Kosznovszky, after beating out Championship rivals Swansea to agree a deal.

The Hungary U21 international has represented his country on nine occasions, following 12 run-outs for the U17 outfit.

Kosznovszky scored three goals and provided three assists for MTK Budapest last season and now looks set for a move to the English second-tier.

The Hungarian can operate in numerous areas, capable of playing as a six, eight, or 10, providing an attacking threat from the engine room.

He also offers defensive stability, displaying tough tackling tendencies for MTK Budapest, perhaps going too far at times, picking up seven yellow cards last season.

Portsmouth are adding some much-needed depth to their midfield

On the whole, Pompey’s 2024/25 campaign was a positive one, as they retained their second-tier status.

This has given them the opportunity to strengthen, identify areas of improvement and aim to push up the table next term.

Portsmouth suffered defensively throughout last season, conceding 71 goals in 46 games, which is where they would ideally want to improve this summer.

However, both Freddie Potts and Isaac Hayden have returned to their parent clubs following loan spells at Fratton Park, which has left Pompey short in midfield.

It is still yet to be seen whether Potts will return on another temporary deal for the 2025/26 campaign, so a move for Kosznovszky makes perfect sense.

Portsmouth are adding an exciting, versatile operator in an area they need cover in, with the 23-year-old also representing an asset with the potential to make a profit on in the future.

Whilst Mousinho and Co. have other departments they need to improve this summer, the signing of Kosznovszky looks to be a smart piece of business.
