After Porto’s 2-0 win over Braga in the Portuguese Cup on Sunday, Porto president, Pinto da Costa, quoted by Record, guaranteed that he and Porto manager Sérgio Conceição will “continue together and win” after speculation regarding Conceição’s job.
“I want everyone at FC Porto to have a happy life, to succeed and achieve all their goals, but everything has its time. Sérgio, we will continue together, we will continue to win, we will continue to have players who love you a lot, who believe in you, who feel good at FC Porto – and the ten titles you won at FC Porto, for what you want, for what your son wants, are not enough,” said Costa in a speech congratulating Conceição on the win.
Conceição has seen a lot of success at Porto since joining the Portuguese giants in 2017, having won the Portuguese League three times, the Portuguese Cup three times, the Portuguese League Cup once, and the Portuguese Super Cup three times. However, discomfort around how the club has been growing in recent times and has been said to be causing some tension between Conceição and Costa.
Despite this vote of confidence by Costa, it is still entirely possible for Conceição to leave the Dragoēs after six years at the club, with Napoli said to be interested in the services of the Portuguese manager. Having had a long career as a player in Serie A at the likes of Lazio, Parma, and Inter, a potential return to Italy may interest Conceição as he considers venturing away from his boyhood club one more time.
