This is now a whopping seven promotions in Sarcevic’s career, one of which came in his prolific stint as a Plymouth Argyle player.

Stockport held off the likes of Mansfield Town and Wrexham to secure the League Two title.

The aforementioned pair have gained automatic promotion alongside the Hatters after an extremely exciting campaign.

Sarcevic played a key role in this Stockport success, at the heart of their midfield, and this takes his promotion tally to seven.

It began over a decade ago with Chester in 2012, moving up to the National League North, and this time League One is the destination.

Four of Sarcevic’s promotions have been out of League Two. In fact - Fleetwood Town, Argyle and Bolton Wanderers are the other three to go with this season's.

It wasn’t a massively high-profile transfer when he arrived in Devon and so the success he enjoyed at Home Park is both a nod to his hard work and that of the Argyle scouting team also.

Going above and beyond for Plymouth Argyle

Sarcevic first arrived in the south in 2017, just over a month after he parted ways with Shrewsbury Town.

In that same window, Nathan Blissett was signed for a modest £15,000 from local rivals Torquay United, with Ryan Taylor and Jakub Sokolik also joining on permanent deals.

Sarcevic remained there for three years and played 131 times in green and white - he’s only made more appearances for Fleetwood to date in his career.

The coveted promotion came in his first season with Argyle, the club finishing second behind Dockyard Derby rivals Portsmouth and going up automatically as a result.

17 appearances in that second half of the season shows that he hit the ground running, contributing to four goals in the title-winning campaign and amassing a total of 1,382 league minutes.

Argyle only played two seasons in the third-tier before they were then relegated under Scottish manager Derek Adams.

That return to League Two came with a very prolific year for the Manchester City fan and former youngster.

10 goals were enough for Sarcevic to lead the team in league play, not to mention that he also contributed six assists to the Pilgrim’s cause.

Strike duo Ryan Hardie and Luke Jephcott netted seven apiece that year, whereas in the previous seasons, Sarcevic had the opportunity to play with Argyle royalty in the form of Irishman Graham Carey.

Alongside Carey, the midfielder was one of the most influential players with Adams at the helm, and so for him to have arrived on a free transfer makes it all the more impressive, exceeding expectations. He had a knack for making runs and arriving late into the box, being able to fire past opposition goalkeepers from 12-18 yards out.

Sarcevic left Argyle for Bolton, with whom he also enjoyed the thrills of promotion, and he has now done the same twice more in a Stockport shirt and will be heading for League One again in the not too distant future, a level that he, of course, reached in those previous years with Argyle.
