Plymouth Argyle: If nothing happens, these three players are going to leave Home Park

There are a few players whose contracts are set to expire at Plymouth this summer

With Plymouth Argyle embroiled in a relegation scrap, handing out new contracts to players set to leave for free this summer is understandably not their top priority.

Therefore, three players are still set to depart Home Park at the end of the season unless a deal is made between now and the end of June.

You'd expect Plymouth to make these decisions at the culmination of the season, as the division they find themselves in for the 2025/26 campaign will likely influence the delegation of new contracts - Football League World has taken a look at those who will be the subject of those decisions come May.

Mustapha Bundu

Earning an estimated £10k per week, according to Capology, is defensive midfielder, Mustapha Bundu, who returned to England in September 2023 to line up for the Pilgrims, having played for the likes of Hereford and Newquay FC in the infancy of his career.

Signing a two-year deal upon his arrival from Belgian side Anderlecht, Bundu endured a first season which saw him primarily appear off the bench. This season, however, he's been utilised more from the off and is subsequently enjoying his best scoring season since the 2019/20 campaign, when he played for Aarhus GF in Denmark.

Whether Bundu will be offered a new contract will likely be down to which division the Pilgrims find themselves in next season. If they find themselves in the third tier, then it's hard to justify paying someone an eight-figure weekly contract.

Equally, after a relatively solid Championship season, the Sierra Leone international may look for a club in a better division than that of League One.

Jordan Houghton

Out of anyone on this list, Jordan Houghton has been at Home Park for the longest time, with this season being his fourth since his move from MK Dons.

In fact, Houghton has been familiar with the Pilgrims since 2015, when he made 10 appearances on loan at Plymouth when he was playing for Chelsea. Therefore, a new contract will likely be offered to the midfielder, but the question would be whether he'd choose to remain at the club after a season which has seen him fall down the pecking order.

After playing a major part in the side's promotion from League One and their subsequent first season in the Championship, the presence of Adam Randell and Darko Gyabi has limited his time on the pitch. At 29, it wouldn't be a surprise if Houghton was to depart this summer in favour of more game time.

Zak Baker

Academy graduate Zak Baker signed a one-year extension at the end of the 2023/24 season but is still yet to make a senior appearance for his current club, enjoying loan spells at the likes of Tiverton and Plymouth Parkway this season.

Therefore, Baker may choose to depart Plymouth to a club that will allow him to improve as a goalkeeper once his current contract is up.
