Bristol City have been dealt further setbacks in their pursuit of AFC Wimbledon defender Jack Currie, it has emerged.

That is according to Football Insider, who report that the Robins have now seen a total of four substantial bids rejected for the 21-year-old.

Nigel Pearson’s side are reported to have targeted a deal for the left full-back ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline, but with AFC Wimbledon standing firm, it remains to be seen whether a deal will be done.

If it was down to the player, the bids would have been accepted, though, with Football Insider reporting that Currie is keen on making the move to Ashton Gate.

This transfer interest comes after Currie has enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough campaign at Plough Lane this season.

Indeed, in 2021/22, he made just one appearance for the Dons, instead spending the season out on loan with Eastbourne Borough in the National League South.

Are Bristol City known as the Robins?

True False

However, under Johnnie Jackson this season, Currie has appeared 32 times in all competitions to date, becoming a regular starter in both the league and cup competitions.

If Currie were to join the Robins, he would not be the first exciting arrival from the EFL to appear at Ashton Gate on deadline day.

That is after the club earlier today confirmed the capture of Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Anis Mehmeti.

The Verdict

Having rejected four bids that are said to be ‘substantial’, AFC Wimbledon are clearly standing firm on this one.

Indeed, having rejected so many offers, you do wonder if a huge huge offer that they simply cannot refuse may be Bristol City’s only option.

With Currie being contracted at Plough Lane until this summer, as per Transfermarkt, you do wonder, given their stance, if Wimbledon hold the option to extend his current deal further.

With just hours remaining before the window closes, it remains to be seen whether or not things between the two clubs remain at an impasse.
