Player Review: Facundo Pellistri makes a promising debut for Manchester United | OneFootball

It took a world by shock when Manchester United announced Facundo Pellistri as their deadline day signing after missing out on Jadon Sancho.

Weeks later, Pellistri played his first match in the red shirt for the U23 side against Everton.

Pellistri looked very promising but raw and apprehensive. He’s very comfortable in possession and makes the ball glued to his feet. Agile on the feet, his dribbling ability is top-notch. He always looked to cut in from the right-wing and even in left-half spaces.

On certain occasions, you could see his need to get the ball as he dropped deep to be a passing option. He’s a progressive passer of the ball and always looked forward.

A very special trait of Pellistri which was visible from the opening minute of his game was his ability to check shoulders without making any move. This gives him a competitive advantage and adds up to make astute decision-making.

He had a chance to get his name on the scoresheet after 24 minutes but his shot was saved straight by the Evertonian goal-keeper Joao Virgina.

Minutes later, he was badly fouled by the opposition but no foul was given.

Another key highlight of his game was when he received an unjust yellow card in the second-half of the game.

It is unjust because there was no contact between the players – Pellistri was dribbling away from his opposition but it was the defender who went down after failing to get the ball.

All in all, it was a brilliant display by the former Penarol winger in his first game in the country. Yes, its true that he looked sloppy but he tried his best to remain calm and there are a lot of positives United could take away from his first game.
