Ligue 1 21/22, Round 25 – 20/2/22
MARSEILLE – 0
Pau López, 5
Pol Lirola, 4
William Saliba, 5
Duje Ćaleta-Car, 4
Sead Kolašinac, 3 – It was his woeful positioning and lazy covering that were partly responsible for the opening goal. Sampaoli said this week he was worried about him not being up to date on how OM play, it seems his concerns were justified. Subbed after an hour.
Valentin Rongier, 4
Mattéo Guendouzi, 5
Gerson, 3 – Arguably responsible for both goals. He lost Zedadka, who exploited space in the left-back area to set up the opener, and was outjumped by the far smaller Allevinah for the second. Even so, he played with more intensity than usual and some of his passing was useful. He’s had worse games for OM.
Dimitri Payet, 6 – Predictably given a hard time by the French press but, in truth, he tried his best to create something and he was at the centre of everything his team did in a positive sense. Although some of his deliveries were poor, he was OM’s biggest threat by some distance.
Cengiz Ünder, 5
Arkadiusz Milik, 3 – Making Milik and Payet work in the same team has been a serious conundrum for Sampaoli this season – there may not be a solution. Here again, he was isolated, largely anonymous and barely a threat for Clermont overall.
Others: Peres 5, Dieng 5, Henrique 5.
CLERMONT – 2 (Bayo 13, Allevinah 84)
Ouparine Djoco, 6
Vital N’Simba, 6
Cédric Hountondji, 6
Alidu Seidu, 7
Akim Zedadka, 7 – One of Ligue 1 most underappreciated players and this was another considered and effective performance, he snuck in behind Gerson and Kolašinac to assist Bayo’s opener and prevented a likely goal with a latch ditch block on Under.
Johan Gastien, 7 – His metronomic midfield passing as Clermont’s sentinel was near-perfect at times but, despite such an assured display, he was rarely able to progress pay for his side as he might have hoped, considering the time he was afforded on the ball. Still did enough for a 7, however.
Salis Abdul Samed, 6
Yohann Magnin, 5
Lucas Da Cunha, 5
Elbasan Rashani, 4
Mohamed Bayo, 6 – It was his lovely sweeping finish, despite being under pressure from his own man, Rashani, that slammed home the opener early on – his only shot of the game.
Others: Khaoui 4, Berthomier 5, Kyei 5, Allevinah 7.
