Pioli believes Milan’s Scudetto was ‘dictated by the consistency’ the team showed | OneFootball

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli believes that consistency has been the key for his side as they managed to keep their nerve until the end and win the Scudetto.

The equation was simple in the end going into the final game of the season away against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium as Stefano Pioli’s side knew that avoiding defeat was enough to win the league for a 19th time.

They blew the Neroverdi away by half time thanks to a brace from Olivier Giroud plus a goal from Franck Kessie with all three being set up by Rafael Leao, and that meant the celebrations could start earlier and continue long into the night, which they certainly did.

Pioli was interviewed on Milan TV as part of the title celebrations that took place this evening, with an open top bus parade beginning at Casa Milan and ending at Piazza Duomo.

“All the games have meant a lot, perhaps there have been games that we have defined as heavier than others, but then those that seemed simpler turned out to be more complicated. Success is also dictated by the consistency we have had, without losing our characteristics and for the group that has been created,” he said (via MilanNews).

On the group: “I think a lot of credit goes to the mix of players that has been created. The most experienced players are players with an incredible mentality, they want to compete to win and they have transmitted this continuity. Accompanied, however, by this youth. Second place would not have made us happy.”

On the changed team: “He is the eye of a coach. At the first training session I saw and turned to the collaborators saying ‘Something happened’. I found intelligent and not touchy players. They needed to metabolize many things and understand that what they were doing was the right thing.”
