Girona star Artem Dovbyk on Saturday night extended his advantage in the race for the prestigious Pichichi award.

The Pichichi, of course, is handed out upon the close of the Spanish campaign, to the top scorer in La Liga.

Previous winners of the prize include the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and, most recently, Barcelona frontman Robert Lewandowski.

This time round, the race for the accolade was long led by a newcomer to Spanish football, in the form of Real Madrid standout Jude Bellingham.

The Englishman, however, is currently in the midst of a dry spell in front of goal, spanning over two months.

Bellingham, as a result, remains on 16 goals, joint-2nd alongside Osasuna frontman Ante Budimir.

And now two clear atop the Pichichi standings, as alluded to above, is Girona goal-getter Artem Dovbyk.

After a lengthy fruitless stretch of his own, Ukrainian international Dovbyk has been back amongst the goals over the last few weeks, heading into Girona’s meeting with Cádiz on Saturday fresh off three strikes in his previous two appearances.

And, en route to an eventual 4-1 rout, the 26-year-old was on target once more, to take his tally for the term to 18 goals, alongside five assists.
