HLN are reporting that Philippe van Esch is set to become the majority shareholder at KV Mechelen, replacing Dieter Penninckx who decided to sell his shares to van Esch and Eddy de Reys. The club have been struggling financially and were in need of new investment, with the aims to attract external investment. However, it now appears that a decision has been made to look at the current shareholders instead.
The side are now in a relegation battle following their 2-0 defeat away to second bottom Zulte Waregem, with the bench being made up almost entirely of academy players. Steven Defour took over part way through the season from Danny Buijs, and while he started well the sides inconsistency and lack of squad depth has proved a real issue.
Samuel Oum Gouet, Schalke loanee Dries Wouters and former Seraing defender Iebe Swers all available for transfer in the winter window.
