Peterborough United close to sealing six-figure move for Birmingham City linked striker | OneFootball

Peterborough United are closing in on sealing a deal for Chesterfield striker Kabongo Tshimanga, according to a report from The Sheffield Star.

It is understood that Posh have opted to trigger the release clause included in Tshimanga’s current contract.

Peterborough are set to pay a fee believed to be in the region of £250,000 for the 25-year-old.

Posh are looking to bolster their attacking options before the window shuts following their decision to sell Jack Marriott to Fleetwood Town yesterday.

Marriott joined Fleetwood for an undisclosed fee after making 21 appearances for Peterborough in League One during the current campaign.

Birmingham City were seemingly set to sign Tshimanga from Chesterfield during the previous transfer window.

However, a proposed deal collapsed on deadline day.

A report from Birmingham Live last week revealed that the Blues were not completely closed off to the possibility of making another move for Tshimanga.

Birmingham will now have to switch their attention to other potential targets as Peterborough are on course to complete a deal.

Providing that Posh are able to sign Tshimanga before tonight’s deadline, the striker could potentially make his debut for the club this weekend when they head to The Bolt New Lawn to face Forest Green Rovers.

This could turn out to be a clever bit of business by Peterborough as Tshimanga has excelled during his time at Chesterfield.

The forward has managed to find the back of the net on 32 occasions in the 52 games that he has featured in for the Spireites.

Having previously been limited to just six appearances in League One during his time at Milton Keynes Dons, the forward will be determined to prove that he is capable of delivering the goods at this level.

Set to provide some competition for Peterborough’s top-scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris, it will be interesting to see whether the forward will be able to make considerable strides in terms of his development under the guidance of Darren Ferguson.

Given that Ferguson has previously managed to nurture the talent of the likes of Clarke-Harris and Ivan Toney, he will unquestionably fancy his chances of getting the best out of Tshimanga.
