The Premier League made its long-awaited return this weekend as Arsenal travelled to Crystal Palace for the opening game of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side got the their season off to the ideal start as they expertly negotiated what, on paper, could have been a very tricky night.

A goal from Gabriel Martinelli and a second-half own goal were more than enough to see Arsenal cruise to the three points on the perfect opening day.

The same can not be said of Liverpool, however, who made a real hash of their trip to newly-promoted side, Fulham.

On a glorious day as the London sunshine baked down, Liverpool floundered and, ultimately, flattered to deceive, succumbing to an underwhelming 2-2 draw.

They twice went behind to goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic who had quite the day out as he bullied the likes of Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk.

It took a late flurry from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah to spare them the blushes of an opening day defeat in the end but it will certainly be seen as two points dropped.

Meanwhile, as Liverpool struggled on the pitch, former star turned pundit Peter Crouch was having just as tricky a time in the BT Sport studio.

BT, who cover all the Saturday lunchtime kick-offs in the UK, assembled their ‘A Team’ squad of pundits as Rio Ferdinand and Crouch took to the studio at Craven Cottage.

However, while Crouchy is usually the one dishing out the banter, he found himself on the receiving end this time around as host Rachel Brown wrecked him with a passing comment.

Check it out in the hilarious clip below:

Brutal – Ferdinand couldn’t help but laugh.

To Crouch’s credit, he saw the funny side of the moment as well, sharing in the laughter before the studio got back down to the business of discussing the game at hand.

Liverpool will certainly need to pull their socks right up if they are hoping to challenge Manchester City for the title again this season.

That sort of insipid performance simply won’t fly at the top of the league and they will need to sort things as soon as possible.
