Liverpool maintained pace with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League courtesy of goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota helping them to a 3-1 win over a tricky Fulham side at Craven Cottage.
Here are our three takeaways from the clash.
It was far from a vintage Liverpool performance, and in truth Fulham were the better side for much of the first half.
But the Reds found themselves 2-1 up courtesy of two moments of individual brilliance. First, Trent Alexander-Arnold curled home an exquisite free-kick, before Ryan Gravenberch fired home from outside the area to help his side retake the lead.
While they may not be the best or prettiest side in possession this season, Liverpool’s ability to find moments of magic from individuals means that there is no reason they can’t be crowned Premier League Champions in a month’s time.
Much of the talk around Anfield in recent months has been around the end of an era, but Liverpool showed shoots of having a new one waiting in the wings against the Cottagers.
Harvey Elliot and Ryan Gravenberch both started in central midfield and combined for the second goal, while Dominik Szoboszlai came on from the bench,
Meanwhile, Jarred Quansah continues to grow into his role alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of defence, and Curtis Jones was among the substitutes.
With Conor Bradley and Stefan Bajcetic both also talented youngsters at the Reds’ disposal, there may be less summer upheaval then expected at Anfield this summer.
It has been a good season for Fulham despite losing Aleksandr Mitrovic to Saudi Arabia, but they are yet to truly find a way to capitalise on their performances.
Today’s was another example, with the home side having the better of much of the first half only for a poor final pass to prevent them from turning that into chances.
Then, a moment of madness from João Palhinha saw them fall a goal down, and they were a distant second best in the second half.
Silva has plenty of talent to work with in the west London side, but they are struggling for consistency. Fix that, and they could be in with a serious chance of European football in the seasons to come.
