Olympique Lyonnais are seriously considering the future of their manager Peter Bosz and have handed the Dutchman an ultimatum, according to Foot Mercato.

The 58-year-old joined Lyon last season following his spell with Bayer Leverkusen and guided Lyon to an underwhelming eighth-place finish in Ligue 1.

With six new players coming in during the transfer window, Les Gones were expected to improve and they began the new season in great form.

They were unbeaten in their first five games, winning four and drawing one. But they have lost their last three in a row to Lorient, AS Monaco and title holders Paris Saint-Germain.

Lyon’s performances in those three games were questionable but what has raised more eyebrows is Bosz’s tactical set-up which is said to have irked the players.

Several players, including former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, have reportedly complained to the club’s hierarchy that they sometimes do not understand the Dutch manager’s tactics.

Some other senior players in the squad have also contacted management to complain about the discrepancy between the offensive game advocated in the manager’s speech and his team selections.

Bosz’s decision to use midfielder Thiago Mendes as a centre-back also caused a stir in the dressing room.

The players’ grievances prompted Lyon’s football director Vincent Ponsot to call a crisis meeting with Bosz, during which he explained the allegations against him.

The Dutchman has now been handed a five-match ultimatum to turn things around at the Groupama Stadium, both performance and decisions-wise, or he will be replaced.

Bosz had earlier claimed he did not feel in danger of losing his job, and he had a precise idea of ​​what he wanted from his group.

Lyon will face RC Lens, Toulouse, Stade Rennais, Montpellier and LOSC Lille over the next month.

None of those games will be easy for Bosz’s side, but if there are no significant improvements, the club will look to replace the Dutchman.
