​Perth Glory confirm cramp behind omission of ex-Liverpool striker Sturridge | OneFootball

Daniel Sturridge's Perth Glory career may have hit a significant speed bump.

The former England and Liverpool striker joined the Australian club as a free agent in September.

He did play as a late substitute on November 20th against Adelaide United, but decided himself not to play against Western United on Friday.

The club's owner, Tony Sage, says that Sturridge told his manager that he was struggling with cramp after a four-hour flight to the game.

"Look, a lot of consultation goes ahead, and when I saw the team sheet I made the call to sound out why (Sturridge was left off)," Sage said on SEN.

"After a talk between the two – the player and the coach – he didn't feel he could contribute.

"Richie (Richard Garcia) said it in the post-match, he's not used to a four-hour flight to a game. He's just not used to it."
