The Telegraph report that Steve Bruce is pushing the Newcastle United hierarchy to start making moves in the transfer market, with the club hopeful of signing Joe Willock this summer.

Newcastle are still waiting for clarity on whether or not the midfielder is available, but it appears a permanent move is back on the table, rather than just a loan. Arsenal are trying to raise money for their own signings, according to the report.

Willock isn’t forcing a transfer through, and Newcastle haven’t put a deadline on talks, so this one could be set to drag on a bit. But Bruce is keen to get new signings in before the start of the season, if possible.

Reports last week suggested Arsenal want £30m for Willock, if it is indeed a permanent transfer. We know Newcastle are stingy in the market under Mike Ashley though, so the two clubs may need to reach some sort of compromise.

Willock is with Arsenal in pre-season at the moment, but he has had a small injury problem and hasn’t featured much yet.
