Danny Cowley’s side have won five of their last six league games and are now just two points adrift of the play-off places in the third-tier.

With the transfer window set to open next month, it will be intriguing to see whether Pompey will be able to bolster their squad by drafting some fresh faces.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the latest Portsmouth transfer talking points ahead of January…

15 occasions for the club.

Cowley recently admitted that although he would like to sign the defender on a permanent deal, the club may find it difficult to negotiate a deal with the Lions.

Meanwhile, Millwall manager Gary Rowett has suggested that if Pompey cannot afford to sign Romeo, he will be willing to negotiate with another club in January if interest arises.

If the Lions do indeed opt to recall Romeo next month and sell him to another club, Portsmouth will need to draft up a list of replacements as a failure to do so could have a detrimental impact on their fortunes in the third-tier.

Could Kyle Wootton make the switch to Fratton Park?

With Cowley admitting that the club will be in the market for a new striker in January, it will be intriguing to see whether he opts to swoop for Kyle Wootton.

As reported by The News, the Notts County forward is currently one of Portsmouth’s key targets ahead of the upcoming window.

Wootton has managed to find the back of the net on eight occasions in the National League this season whilst he also recently scored for the Magpies in their FA Cup clash with Rochdale.

Certainly no stranger to League One, the 25-year-old has scored 11 goals in 61 appearances at this level during his career to date.

If Wootton does seal a move to Portsmouth, he could force fellow forward John Marquis to step up his performance levels in the second-half of the campaign.
