Portugal defender Pepe has stated that it is ‘inadmissible’ that an Argentine referee was in-charge of Morocco’s win over Portugal, after Lionel Messi’s comments about officiating yesterday.

Messi had criticised referee Antonio Lahoz for his showing against the Netherlands and the Spanish referee was also criticised by many on social media. But Pepe, who missed a huge chance to equalise for Portugal in the last minute against Morocco, told reporters in the post-game interview that it shouldn’t have been allowed for an Argentine referee to be in-charge today.

He stated (via Relevo): “It’s inadmissible that an Argentine referee was in charge today after what happened yesterday, with Messi complaining. After what I saw today, they can give the title to Argentina now.”

Portugal lost 1-0 to Morocco, who have now become the first African team in history to make it to the semi-final of the World Cup.
