Manchester City will not make any late alterations to their existing transfer window plans despite the 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
Following back-to-back Premier League defeats, attention has quickly turned to whether the ongoing struggles would prompt a rethink from Pep Guardiola and the Etihad Stadium hierarchy on September 1.
However, the Catalan coach appeared firm in his conviction that the squad will continue as it stands or existing plans and proposed deals would remain in tact, even as injuries begin to mount during the early stages of the season.
The defeat at the Amex Stadium saw City let slip a first-half lead earned by Erling Haaland, before goals from James Milner and Brajan Gruda condemned the visitors to a second consecutive loss.
With just three points collected from their opening three fixtures, Pep Guardiola’s side now head into a decisive run of fixtures against Manchester United, Napoli, and Arsenal under increased pressure to find consistency.
Summer signing Rayan Cherki will miss the next two months with a thigh injury, and despite that setback, Guardiola has remained adamant that problems highlighted through their last two defeats would not force a late change and re-think over signings.
Speaking during his post-match press conference from the Amex Stadium, Guardiola insisted that Manchester City will not make any changes to how the club intend to act during the final hours of the summer transfer window.
While City are monitoring longer-term plans such as identifying a successor to Ederson amid continued Turkish interest, there is now little expectation of further incomings before the window closes.
Guardiola’s stance follows a summer that has already seen significant investment, including the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, alongside decisions on youth prospects like James McAtee leaving for Nottingham Forest and Claudio Echeverri joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan.
Looking ahead, Guardiola’s confidence in his squad suggests opportunities will continue to open for emerging players, especially during Cherki’s absence. The likes of Oscar Bobb and Nico O’Reilly could be called upon more frequently in the coming weeks, providing much-needed rotation as City navigate a congested calendar.
Ultimately, City’s decision to remain mostly unmoved in the remainder market may be viewed as a gamble if results fail to improve, particularly in the right-back position following earlier flaws in the games of respective options.
