After winning the FIFA Club World Cup Pep Guardiola appears eager to begin a new era of success at Manchester City. City’s 4-nil win over Fluminense in the FIFA Club World Cup final means that Guardiola has now taken Manchester City to every available honour in his time at the club. It’s a feat that will take some time to sink in for City fans.

Since taking over from Manuel Pellegrini the City manager has created a winning machine. His side plays in his image and has been rewarded with every available trophy on offer. It’s a remarkable achievement and one that cements Guardiola’s legacy as one of the greatest managers of all time. The goal when Guardiola took over was to conquer Europe. Instead, he has conquered the globe and every competition in between.

But as one story ends another may begin. After watching his side conquer all before them Guardiola felt that the job was done. Speaking post-game he told the media: “I would like to say we had the feeling we would close the chapter, we won all the titles, there’s nothing else to win, I had a feeling the job was done, it was over.”

But in an ominous warning for City’s rivals, Guardiola intends to build another era of success. He added: “Now it’s Christmas time, buy another book and start to write it again. The last eight years it’s over.”

It could be a scary proposition for City’s rivals. If the hunger remains to start again for Pep Guardiola it will surely flow down to his players. After scaling the mountain it would be remarkable to do it again.

But Guardiola and his team deal in the remarkable. They will now have to get to work to catch Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League. Based on their recent history you wouldn’t bet against them getting back to the top again.
