Manchester City may be on the verge of swooping for Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro, according to a new report, as Sergio Gomez is linked with an exit.

The Spain under-21 international is less than a year into his Manchester City career, having made the switch to the Premier League champions last summer in a move from RSC Anderlecht – managed by Vincent Kompany at the time.

While some had expected Gomez to instantly take up the role once exemplified by the now-Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, things haven’t been as straightforward for the former Barcelona academy product.

With 23 appearances to his name across all competitions, Sergio Gomez has started just 10 matches all season and 970 match minutes to his name, in which he has contributed two assists in the process.

As the summer transfer window edges ever closer, City appear to be hotting up in their own activity, with interest in Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol now followed up by talk of some admiration in a possible deal for Raphael Guerreiro.

According to a report from The Sun, City are considering making a move for the versatile 29 year-old, who is welcome to leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer with his contract expiring.

Bayern Munich are also among the clubs to be interested in the Portugal international, as the player commands interest from across Europe given his ability to play both as a left-back and in central midfield.

In turn, Manchester City’s Sergio Gomez could be permitted to move on this summer, as the Spanish international reportedly commands interest from his former coach and newly-promoted Premier League outfit, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

The coming weeks and months are also expected to see City officials iron out the future of another of their full-back options in Joao Cancelo – who will return from a six-month loan deal at Bayern Munich.

The Portuguese defender left the Etihad Stadium in the January transfer window, seeking improved game time following a reported fall-out with his manager and as such, dropping down the pecking order at the club.

Manchester City have certainly not struggled in his absence, with the likes of Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji operating at left-back since and contributing healthily to the club’s pursuit of a historic treble – which is now just one victory away.

City take on Inter in the UEFA Champions League final this weekend, at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
