Hoffenheim have released a statement from head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo which commits his future to the club amid speculation of the American becoming the new USMNT head coach.

In the statement, Matarazzo says:

“It is extremely important to create clarity and calm in this turbulent phase. I am proud to be the coach of this team and am very much looking forward to competing with the boys in European competition in the new season. I am convinced that with the right additions to the squad we will have another successful season.”

Sky Germany reports that the US federation made an approach to Matarazzo but there were never any talks between the club and the federation. In recent days there had been rumours that Matarazzo was very interested in managing his home nation as they enter a new World Cup cycle ahead of hosting the tournament in 2026.

Matarazzo and interim director Frank Kramer will now plan the squad ahead of the upcoming season which will see Hoffenheim compete in the Europa League. They have already completed the signing of Austrian full-back Alexander Prass from Sturm Graz.

However, Hoffenheim still have an eye on the future. Sandro Wagner was tipped as a potential successor of Matarazzo at Hoffenheim and they will continue to keep an eye on the German national team assistant.
