Pellegrini says Roma ‘can do better’ than they did against Milan at San Siro | OneFootball

AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini thinks that the Giallorossi can play better than they did at San Siro during the Europa League quarter-final first leg.

Speaking during his press conference ahead of the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico (via Milan News), Pellegrini appeared confident of his team’s chances of getting into the Europa League semi-finals for the second season running.

The first leg at San Siro ended 1-0 to Roma with the Giallorossi deservedly taking a lead back to the Olimpico, so they will be looking to finish the job in a professional manner on Thursday night. De Rossi has already spoken of how important this match is to Milan’s season.

Pellegrini was asked about why he tends to remain so quiet on many issues and he explained that it is the way he and the team like to operate.

“These are things we decide together with the team. There was a particular moment when I suffered injuries, we agreed to focus more on physical and mental health. Then I was always present with my teammates and for Roma,” Pellegrini said.

He was then asked to preview the second leg and explained that these are the games the players look forward to the most, and he also expressed confidence that Roma can play even better than the first leg.

“These games are the best ones to play. You start playing to get in front of 70,000 people who love you and who push you to give something more. It will be a difficult game because Milan want to go through, but so do Roma. We played a very good game in San Siro in Milan, tomorrow we can do even better,” he said.

Asked to expand on the mentality of the team, Pellegrini said: “This is what the coach wants to transmit to us: always play to win. You think that certain matches are less important because they are less important, but then it’s those matches that make you play against the top teams.”
