An update on the wellbeing of two headline members of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has been forthcoming on Thursday.

And the news will no doubt be met with widespread excitement on the part of the Barca faithful.

This comes amid confirmation that Pedri and Frenkie de Jong are inching towards respective returns to the pitch.

Both Pedri, and De Jong, of course set alarm bells ringing in Catalunya’s capital earlier this month.

As much came after the midfield duo were forced into respective first-half departures from Barca’s La Liga meeting with Athletic Club.

En route to a goalless stalemate at San Mamés, De Jong lasted just 25 minutes before succumbing to an ankle problem, whilst Pedri made it to the stroke of the interval before departing in a flood of tears, clutching his thigh.

It was subsequently revealed that the former was in line for a spell of around four weeks on the sidelines, with Pedri likely to be out for a further fortnight.

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, though, whilst De Jong appears to be firmly on track, his midfield partner-in-crime could even be ahead of schedule in his recovery.

As per a report from Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, after returning to the grass on Thursday, Pedri is looking increasingly likely to be available to take his place in Xavi’s matchday squad for the first leg of Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Paris Saint-Germain, on April 10th.
