RC Lens’s manager Franck Haise has profiled well in Liverpool’s search for a new manager. Their data-led approach considers Haise alongside Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Newcastle’s Eddie Howe to be promising candidates albeit all three will be unlikely to make the club’s shortlist according to The Athletic.

Xabi Alonso had figured high on their list in recent months, but conflicting reports yesterday evening over the future of the Bayer Leverkusen manager, were unanimous in their belief that Liverpool would not be his final destination this summer. Foot Mercato suggests that Bayern Munich are now favourites, while other outlets suggest that the manager will remain at Leverkusen.

The Athletic posits that Liverpool will cast their net wide as they search for their next appointment, and while frequently mentioned names like Sporting’s Ruben Amorim and Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann will likely be high on the list, another option could make the cut.

Could Paulo Fonesca make Liverpool’s shortlist?

Paulo Fonesca is well sought-after in Ligue 1, with it being reported that Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais are interested in taking the manager away from Lille OSC at the end of his contract this summer. However, The Athletic suggests that the Premier League side should also be looking at the coach.

His attractive playing style, mixed with his experience across a multitude of leagues (Portugal, Ukraine and Italy) has made Lille a formidable force in Ligue 1. And with Lille playing Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League, there will be a chance for a broader audience to see what Fonesca has developed in the north of France.
