Goal.com have released some of the results to their ‘best player in the world’ list and it isn’t good news for Paul Pogba.
Named as the 15th best player in the world by the website last year, the midfielder has plummeted to 31st place in 2017.
After a world record transfer in the summer of 2016, Pogba helped Manchester United to two trophies – the League Cup and the Europa League – during his first season back at Old Trafford.
Apparently that, plus a solid start to the current campaign, wasn’t enough to convince Goal’s editors and correspondents that Pogba remains one of the world’s very best talents.
To make matters worse, Pogba was actually voted ninth in 2015, when he was still a Juventus player.
Perhaps that heavy price tag has tainted people’s expectations.
31st obviously isn’t bad but it’s a big drop and, if we’re being honest, it’s probably a bit harsh.
Just watching Manchester United since Pogba picked up his hamstring injury has been en eye-opening (well, closing) experience: if you want to see how good he is, just look at how different they are without him.
