Danny Mills has blasted referee Darren England for his performance in Leeds United’s 3-2 win over Millwall on Tuesday evening.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites ace suggested that the official put in a “shocking” display at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had to overturn a two goal deficit to eventually win out 3-2 against their visitors, who were seemingly guilty of time wasting on several occasions.

But Mills has claimed that the victory came no thanks to the man in the middle.

“They [the officials] were shocking,” he told Football Insider.

“Darren England was absolutely hopeless. I was texting Ian Danter during the game, I was at the game watching it live, and he was just terrible.

“It was pathetic and embarrassing, some of the decision making. From the moment the first goal went in, the amount of time he allowed the goalkeeper to waste time – time and time and time again. It wasn’t until the end of the first half until he told him to get on with it.

“And it’s not about wasting time, because that can get added on, although he only added on two minutes at the end of the first half, it’s about killing the momentum and giving the team a break.

“I’m surprised actually because Darren England isn’t exactly brand new. Some of the decisions bemused me. I thought it was an incredibly poor performance.”

Second half strikes from Patrick Bamford and Pablo Hernandez were enough to secure a stunning comeback for United against the Lions, who had raced into a commanding lead inside 23 minutes.

The result returned Leeds back to the top of the Championship, with West Brom losing to Cardiff City on Tuesday evening. Bielsa’s men now have a two point lead at the summit.
