Pascal Groß bemoaned Borussia Dortmund's lack of incisiveness in front of goal as they were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday evening.
Borussia Dortmund's precarious situation worsened on Tuesday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat by VfL Wolfsburg and were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal. The result meant that their poor run of form away from home continued and their most realistic hope of winning silverware this season has been shattered.
The Black and Yellows had their fair share of chances over the course of the 120 minutes, but failed to make the most of them and were ultimately knocked out of the DFB-Pokal. Pascal Groß spoke to Sky Sport after the game and felt that the final punch was missing from BVB's game on Tuesday.
"We fought and had our moments. We had our chances and could have scored one or two goals. In the end, we lacked the final punch and then we had to try to keep a clean sheet and get to the penalty shoot-out. Such close games are often decided by the first goal. We couldn't score that. That's why we were unfortunately eliminated."
"Three away defeats in a row is very bad, you can say that. We don't need to sugarcoat it ... The fans are outstanding. We win games at home with them and partly because of them. And away from home, half the stadium is always black and yellow. I feel extremely sorry for them."
Maximilian Beier had the first real chance of the game as he was played through on goal in the first-half. But he could only manage to hit the woodwork. Serhou Guirassy, Julian Brandt, and Felix Nmecha also failed to make the most of their chances to break the deadlock.
The gruelling run of fixtures is certainly taking its toll on Borussia Dortmund. And things don't get any easier for Nuri Sahin's side this weekend as they take on the in-form RB Leipzig.
