Paris Saint-Germain strengthen their position as the club with the most titles in France after their victory against Olympique Lyonnais (1-2) on Saturday night in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, in the final of the 2023-2024 edition of the Coupe de France. Thanks to this success, the Rouge & Bleu now have 51 trophies to their name.
Paris Saint-Germain complete the treble! After winning the Trophée des Champions (victory against Toulouse, 2-0, on 3 January 2024) and Ligue 1 (1st with a 9-point lead), Luis Enrique's men triumphed over Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France final (1-2) on Saturday night, thanks to goals from Dembélé and Ruiz.
In doing so, the Rouge & Bleu won the 15th Coupe de France in their history, reinforcing their status as the team with the most titles in the history of the competition, ahead of Olympique de Marseille (10). This is also the 51st title in the club's history, a record in France.
After knocking out US Revel (9-0), US Orléans (4-1), Stade Brestois (3-1), OGC Nice (3-1) and Stade Rennais (1-0), Les Parisiens beautifully concluded an exceptional 2023-2024 season against OL. Captain Marquinhos – who tonight became the first player to lift 7 Coupes de France – and his teammates also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League this season.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, stated : 'Winning our fifteenth Coupe de France is a true source of pride for our club and our fans. This 51st title also lets us end the season on a high note with a magnificent treble (Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions), our fifth in history. I want to congratulate everyone involved in this collective success, from the players to coach Luis Enrique and Luis Campos, and everyone within the club who contributed to this achievement. PSG's greatest victory is undoubtedly having fostered a new collective and supportive spirit, which the club will build on in the coming months and years.'
Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain, stated : 'I'm thrilled to be honest. I loved the way we played this final, the pace we had right from the start. I think it was a very complete final, and I'm very happy to be able to dedicate another title to the fans. We want to go further. The team has been very good and solid. I think we're only at the beginning'.
'It is an immense source of pride to win another title with this jersey on my shoulders. I want to congratulate all my teammates who fought to achieve this victory. I also have a thought for all the Rouge & Bleu supporters. The Coupe de France is a very special competition. We are extremely happy to win it for the 15th time in the club's history. Personally, winning this trophy for the 7th time still gives me as much emotion,' delighted captain Marquinhos.
